Vancouver, B.C. (June 7 - 19, 2011) — The kindness of strangers astounds me. They open their doors, pull out their sofa beds, clear out their medicine cabinets, put out fresh towels and make me feel welcome. This is Cangioli’s brother’s den. He was in Hong Kong when I moved in for nearly two weeks but his wife Michelle handed me the keys to the house, and the car (!) as if I was a member of the family. I left early in the morning and came home late at night, once in full “fancy dress”, always lugging boxes of materials. In and out, hello how was your day, see you tomorrow. Here we keep the mugs. The maid will be cleaning your room today. Don’t forget to turn off the alarm. I am like a pet at a kennel, a temporary critter holing up in the basement with some kindly caretakers.
